Teaching science is more than delivering subject matter; it is about igniting curiosity and critical thinking and preparing students to face and solve the world challenges around them. With a bachelor’s degree in science education with a focus on biology and chemistry and a master’s degree in science with a focus on medical botany research, I have gathered eleven years of full-time classroom teaching experience in science subjects.
My teaching journey has been characterised by a commitment to differentiated instruction, student-centred learning, and the use of innovative strategies that make science funny and relevant to daily life. Throughout my career, I have taught science subjects as general science at the primary school level as well as biology and chemistry at the secondary school level, using diverse teaching methods to support the students
with different learning styles. I strongly prefer the interactive methods, including the use of audiovisual materials to simplify the complex topics for students, such as mitosis and meiosis in biology. The use of these advanced technological tools has significantly increased student engagement and activeness and resulted in science interest and improved academic performance.
My teaching philosophy also involves ensuring the lesson plans align with curriculum standards while maintaining the use of formative assessments in monitoring progress and reviewing instructional methods. This has enabled me to maintain a high standard of teaching while being responsible for individual student development.
Beyond the classroom, I have actively contributed in a wider range to the learning community. I have supervised science club activities, guiding students to connect science theories with practical, real-world applications. Due to my research background in medical botany, I recently mentored students in developing a project titled “Medicinal Plants with Mosquito-Repellent Properties from Our School Environment”. This experience deepened their understanding of local biodiversity and ignited the spark of their research skills and scientific curiosity.
I am driven by a passion for inspiring the future generation of critical thinkers and scientists. I am eager to contribute to a learning community that values innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence. I believe
that my strong teaching experience, research skills, and student-focused approach make me a valuable addition to any academic team.
